Florida sets a few clear rules for anyone who rents or rides a jet ski, and the operator checks your photo ID at check-in. This list shows who can ride and what to bring. It is a guide, not legal advice.
A rental company cannot rent a jet ski to anyone under 18, so the person who books is 18 or older. Florida sets 14 as the minimum age to operate a jet ski. Riders under 18 follow the rules of each operator, so ask us and we check with the operator before you pay.
Anyone born on or after Jan 1, 1988 needs a photo ID and a Florida FWC boater safety ID card, or a temporary certificate that is valid for 90 days, to operate a jet ski. Visitors from other states can use a boating course from their own state when it meets the national NASBLA standard. Exceptions exist, so ask us about your group. The Florida jet ski license guide explains the card step by step. Ask us which courses count.
Everyone wears a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket. If the jet ski has an engine cut-off lanyard, the rider attaches it. Life jackets are included in every booking.
Florida does not allow riding from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise, so a ride has to end 30 minutes after sunset at the latest.
Bring a photo ID, a swimsuit and a towel, sunscreen, and a phone in a waterproof pouch. Keep bags and valuables to a minimum.
A violation of these rules is a noncriminal infraction in Florida, and the default fine is $100. Ask us if anything on this list is unclear for your group.
